Comedy Performance

To me, comedy serves as a uniting force for humanity. Through various avenues of comedy exploration including stand-up, sketch, improv, and more, I’ve found a deep passion and solace in bringing others around me together through the art of humor.

Sketch Comedy

I’ve led the Greenhills Voodoo Theater Company sketch comedy show as head writer and production manager for the past two years. Hosting an annual performance in the springtime draws in a statewide audience as one of Ann Arbor’s primary comedy troupes. This past year, we garnered the largest number of attendees in the company’s history. We bring together a wide range of actors, tech workers, and writers to put together one of the city’s largest organized sketch comedy shows.

Selected as head writer sophomore year, I have been able to invoke my interests in history and politics to create sketches on topics ranging from the Trojan horse to a presidential debate. I direct writers’ creative workshops and sketchwriting training sessions. As we approached a show during an election cycle, I found it particularly important to serve as a bridge between members of our show to ensure we remained inclusive for all who participated. As part of our mission, we blend humor through breaking down the state of the world in a way that unites people and stokes laughter that rings long past the curtain call.

Greenhills Improv Comedy Showcase

I spearheaded the Greenhills Improv Comedy Showcase with a troupe that gathered a sold-out and overflowing audience. Having planned the event and organized the show, I found great joy in this self-driven project to create a space for students to perform comedy for a large audience. The experience taught me that there’s always room to take initiative and bring joy to the community through humor.

Stand-up

As a stand-up comedian, I’ve performed at Hearsay Theater, open mics, and shows at school. For me, stand-up is about being bold and thoughtful. My interest in history often feeds into my comedy. Critiques of society, politics, and culture find their way into my routines and I’ve found great meaning blending these interests together. Stand-up helps me process the world and express myself humorously and intellectually.

Comedy Club

I founded the school’s Comedy Club, where we perform stand-up for each other, play improv games, and talk all things comedy. I’ve aimed to cultivate a space to unwind and laugh, but also to engage deeply with others about the weight and importance comedy should hold in the world today.
